Hetzner Registration: A Beginner's Guide

Hetzner is one of the best German providers for renting servers. Here you get high reliability at an excellent price. This guide will help you go from opening the website to having a fully ready account.

What You Will Needโ€‹

  • Email: Preferably Gmail or another international service.
  • Bank Card: With the ability to make online and international payments (Visa/MasterCard).
  • Phone: For identity verification.

Part 1: Creating an Accountโ€‹

  1. Open the website: Go to Hetzner.com.
  2. Start registration: In the upper right corner, click Login -> Hetzner Cloud, then the Register now button.
  3. Fill in your details: Use Latin characters (as in your passport).
    • Account type: Private (if you are not a company).
  4. Confirm your email: Follow the link in the email that arrives immediately after registration.

Part 2: Linking a Payment Methodโ€‹

Without this step, you won't be able to create a server.

  1. In the console (Cloud Console), go to the profile menu -> Usage & Billing.
  2. Click Add payment method.
  3. Enter your card details (number, expiration date, CVV).
Verification

Hetzner may make a test charge of about โ‚ฌ1, which will be refunded automatically. This is needed to verify that the card works.

Part 3: Verificationโ€‹

Sometimes Hetzner may ask you to confirm your identity (send a photo of your document or a selfie). This is normal โ€” they do this to combat spammers. Simply follow the instructions in the email if it arrives. Activation usually takes from a few minutes to several hours.

How Much Does It Cost?โ€‹

You pay only for the time the server exists:

  • A minimum server (CX22) costs about โ‚ฌ4-5 per month.
  • Payment is charged automatically once a month.
  • If you no longer need the server โ€” delete it, and charges will stop.
